design quality upon: resqme
The expert jury has chosen – the winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 have been announced.
– 4,815 entries from 53 countries
– 72 Red Dot: Best of the Best winners
– 40 international experts made up the largest-ever Red Dot jury
They tested, assessed, criticised and discussed. After a jury session spanning three long days, the team of experts had reached a consensus: the best products of 2014 have been chosen. A record number of designers and companies from all over the world took part in this year’s competition by submitting their innovations for the renowned design award that is the Red Dot. With 4,815 entries, the Red Dot Award: Product Design received the highest-ever number of entries and at the same time added some new countries to the list of participants.
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award, explains why the competition is constantly rising in significance at an international level: “The Red Dot Award: Product Design gives design professionals from all over the world a chance to measure themselves against each other. Year after year, this results in a higher level of design and also motivates the participants to enter their best products in the competition.” In addition, the Red Dot label is an excellent marketing instrument for the award winners. The competition’s own tools alone ensure a large reach, for example by including the laureates in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, in the Red Dot App and in the exhibitions of the Red Dot Design Museums.
In order to ensure a professional appraisal of the quantity and diversity of products in this year’s competition, the international Red Dot jury was increased in size once again to number 40 design professionals from 25 countries. There were 72 winners of the highest award in the competition, the Red Dot: Best of the Best. This award is seen as the ultimate accolade in the world of design, and only 1.5% of all entries won it in 2014.
“Dear Mr Colasse,
This year again, the Red Dot jury was looking for the best achievements in
international product design – true to the motto “In search of excellence”.

Jim Sanders, our guest author, advises us in five areas for safer driving at night.
We wish you happy holidays and drive safely during the Easter holiday.
Ninety percent of a driver’s reaction is based on vision, according to the National Safety Council (NSC). When driving at night, visibility is low and accidents occur more often. The NSC reported that fatal traffic accidents occur three times more often at night. Follow these tips to stay safe while driving after dark.
Have Your Headlights Aligned
Your headlights must function properly to maximize your range of vision at night. Over a period of time, headlights will move out of position due to repeated slamming of the hood or from a collision. If your headlights seem dim, this may be because they are not properly calibrated, not because of wear and tear. The easiest way to check for correct headlight alignment is to park your car close to a wall and shine your lights. Mark the center of each light beam on the wall with an “X” (use masking tape), and then adjust the aiming screws accordingly.
We all know drinking and driving can kill, but smoking while driving is also dangerous. Nicotine and carbon monoxide can impair night vision, according to The Weather Channel. Smoking also forces drivers to use their hands for something other than the steering wheel, gear shift or turn signals. It is best to simply pull over and take a smoke break if you have to have one.
When you first turn the lights off in a room, the area will be extremely dark until your eyes adjust and pick up what little light remains. This same concept applies when you have been driving in the sun all day. It will take your eyes at least an hour to adjust to dusk and then the dark. Sudden bright light can also cause glare and temporary vision impairment. If an oncoming driver does not turn off his high beams, look at the right shoulder of the road for guidance, and avoid staring at the lights. It takes human eyes up to five seconds to readjust and even longer for older adults.
Watch for Animals
Drivers generally get no warning before colliding with a deer crossing the road. The good news is that headlights will reflect off the retinas of the animal (thus the “deer in headlights” descriptor), so you could potentially spot them a few hundred feet away. Studies have shown bumper-mounted deer whistles do not work, so it’s simply best to slow down and look as far ahead as possible for eye reflections.
Get Good Insurance
Though auto coverage is required in every state, your choice of indemnities is what makes a difference in night driver safety. Full coverage & mdashwhich includes collision, personal injury and uninsured motorist protection—generally costs just a few dollars more per month than the minimum liability coverage required by law. Find an insurance company The Hartford that offers full auto coverage with personalized options to fit your needs. Comprehensive coverage generally offers a rental in the event your car is severely damaged in an accident, and it could save you from potentially large medical bills in the long run.

Our guest author, Kerry, speaks about electric cars in winter. In a few days, we will be on Easter holiday. It is therefore essential to know some tips for vigilance.
I invite you to read these few lines:
The race to reduce global carbon footprint has led to the rise of new technologies. Electric are for instance molded using today’s dominant green transport concepts that are embraced by nearly all leading automobile manufacturers to attain environmentally sustainable auto industry products.
The cars have zero carbon emissions, they are made using recyclable materials and they are smaller in size, giving them the ability to occupy less parking and road space, a design that is factored in to ease congestion on roads and parking lots as the global population swells and demand for environmentally friendly cars rises. You may however not be able enjoy these advantages in entirety, whenever winter seasons set in, owing to a number of limitations that affect the cars’ performance.
Road performance in cold winter weather is amongst the biggest challenges facing electric car users. This can be attributed to the fact that these cars are powered using batteries which contain ordinary chemicals whose rate of reaction slow down under cold conditions. Consequently, reducing their ability to generate enough power to propel features and aspects that enables them to attain peak performance status.
Several professional test drive reports note that electric car model such as Mitsubishi MiEV EV can’t in most cases cruise at over 50 mph under cold weather conditions whereas it can go at over 62 mph under in hot weather conditions. The 85kWh battery Telsa Model S is as well usually far from its peak performance of 250 mph under winter conditions and the story goes on to include Nissan’s Leaf, BMW i3 and Renault’s Zoe. Decreased performance aspects of electric cars have brought about safety concerns which may see the technology lag behind the gasoline line of automobile concepts for a while before its efficiency can be fully embraced by the masses.
The Brighter Side of Affairs
Electric car shortcomings brought about as result of dense air in the tires can be handled by installing winter friendly tires to handle winter chills effects. The tires are designed to increase buoyancy and reduce the amount of power the car requires to cruise at a speed that favors your schedule. They are well designed to limit power consumption as hypermilling driving techniques can considerably extend your electric car’s battery life. Their breaking systems are modeled to support regenerative breaking techniques which helps the car to maintain its momentum and inertia dynamics to make it possible to slow down and speed up continuously without significantly reducing your batteries’ power load.
It’s significant to pay attention to your electric car’s mechanical requirements by taking good care of its power reservoirs. This enables you to avoid the danger of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere in cold winter weather. Take short trips within your city or neighborhood as long distance adventures in an electric will only be a good idea when the decreasing performance issues that affects them under cold weather conditions gets solved. Ask your local car brokers how you can enhance your electric car’s performance using solar technology if you’re in search of ways to bolster the car’s road handling abilities or visit your car mechanic before going on a longer trip.

Although there are a number of campaigns and laws in place to encourage people to keep their minds on the road and not on their personal conversations or incoming text messages, the general mindset seems to be that it’s still acceptable to talk on your phone while driving.
Americans are the worst offenders with almost 69 percent of American drivers talking on their phone in the past month while driving according to a survey by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Only 21 percent of British drivers admitted to talking while driving and 40 percent in Germany and France.
The numbers for texting are very similar and it’s these individuals who are most likely to be involved in fatal car accidents due to distracted driving.
In the United States 25 percent of all car accidents are directly related to distracted driving—a staggering 600,000 accidents and 300,000 injuries.
While the numbers seems to still be climbing in the United States, in the case of European Union there has been a decline of 44 percent in member states in the past 13 years of fatalities. That isn’t to say distracted driving is declining, however.
Young, inexperienced drivers are the worst offenders
The term distracted driving can apply to a number of activities, but statistically speaking, mobile phones are the most common choice for the habitually distracted drivers.
Unfortunately studies show the people most commonly using mobile devices while driving are young and unskilled drivers who have typically had their license for a short period of time. Worse still, according to the University of Leeds, these drivers tend to believe their driving abilities are actually adept in self assessments.
These are the drivers most at risk for distraction-related fatal crashes—especially drivers under the age of 20.
Are laws against hands on cell phone use effective?
A number of states like California have taken a stance against hand help mobile phone use while driving as have quite a few countries.
A study by MIT found, however, cell phones aren’t necessarily the problem. Researchers found it is the people who regularly use cell phones behind the wheel who are the problem. These drivers will perpetuate risky driving and behaviors even without their phone.
During the study researchers found, even without the presence of a cell phone, drivers who admitted to frequently using one while driving were more likely to drive faster, change lanes frequently, brake hard and spend a lot of time in the passing lane.
Researchers were quick to add the differences between the drivers in the study and traditional drivers aren’t extreme. Instead, they are indicators of aggressive driving that can be linked to car crashes.
Although we are quick to blame cell phones, this research brings to light the possibility that the root problem may actually be the behaviors of the people who are more likely to use a cell phone while driving compared to those who don’t.

We are horrified!
Day after day, week after week, we read the worst.
A young woman of 35 years , Jennifer Wolfe drown after falling into a pond in the United States after being forced off the road by a reckless driver . She called her husband, begging him to find her, because she feared that no one had seen her accident .
Jennifer seemed panicked and which of us would not be.
The door and windows seemed to refuse to open.
Mrs. Wolfe had no rescue tool, and could not free herself from her vehicle. Her husband, James Wolfe, heard the last cries of his wife, the sounds of water and nothing more.
How nowadays, can we remain indifferent, and not react to the drama of Jennifer, a mother of two?
We beg people to become aware that an accident of this type can happen. And when your vehicle is submerged in water not to open the door and the windows of your car, grab a rescue tool to keep your life before it is too late!
Today, we were in tears at the words of the journalist, Briona Arradondo Channel 9 News.
A grieving family, two children drowned in this accident in Tennessee.
Family members, their friends and all of Bledsoe County are in tears after losing two children in the car accident submerged in a pond on Mount Rigsby Monday night.
The car slid off the narrow road and ended its path in a pond, parents rushed to help the children.
Parents had removed a two year old and a one year old without risk, but soon the car to started sinking and it flooded with cold water. Bledsoe County EMS and many other rescuers arrived at the scene at 8:45pm .
The boy, six weeks old, Emoch Einwechter and the little girl of three years, Susan Einwechter, were under water for about 30 minutes and drowned, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol .
We can not remain indifferent to so much drama , it is time that each of us take the time to educate ourselves, teach our children to swim, read the prejudices and advice on road safety.

Road trips are great fun, especially when you’re with friends, and the weather is just perfect. Planning a road trip doesn’t only mean you pack your bags and set off for a splendid time in your truck, but there’s a lot more to it!
Since you’re taking your own transport, you need to make sure you’ve got the truck in top condition; you don’t want your truck to come to a halt in the middle of the night on a highway. So it’s good to be prepared for the worst – here are some things you need to check for a smooth drive before you travel in your truck:
1. Essential maintenance check
Before anything else, it’s important that you get your truck in good shape. Give your car a maintenance check up and have it spruced up. Get the engine oil changed, axel and chassis well oiled, breaks fixed if they are giving problems, and most of all; make sure you have a working wiper on both front and back windscreens.
2. Check the Tires
When major repairs are done, the next most important thing to check is the tires. Check for any punctures, air pressure, etc. The tires should be in good condition. Also make sure the spare tire is also in good condition along with the jack just in case you need to change it.
3. Fuel Mark
Without a doubt, fill up your tank to the full mark to make sure you don’t have to stop too often in between a long drive. It is recommended you refill the tank as it reaches near half. It shouldn’t go as low as a quarter full only. You never know when you’ll pass by the next gas station.
Check your truck’s air filter; this is essential to supply your truck’s engine with clean air. The air filter needs to be clean and clear of all dirt, dust and other contaminations. Check for the anti freeze.
Make sure you truck has a global positioning system installed in it. This allows you to track your truck’s position and makes it easy for you to locate gas stations, motels, hotels, restaurants, etc.
6. Travel Light
When you’re travelling in one big truck together, make certain not to overload it with unnecessary items. Travel light so it’s less of a hassle packing and at the same time you don’t go above the truck capacity.
7. Emergency Kit
No matter how short or long your travel is, it is always safe to carry an emergency kit with you. Make sure you have medicines for cough, cold, headaches, and have band aids too along with wet wipes. When you’re travelling, it doesn’t take too long to catch the cold, or have motion sickness.
8. Stock up on Snacks
If you’re off for a road trip, you’ve got to stock up on snacks and drinks. This is of vital importance if you’re travelling with kids in the Car or Truck. Kids need something or the other to munch on every little while, so before they get cranky and make your trip a misery, get some snacks.
Whenever you plan a road trip, make sure your truck is in top condition so you enjoy a safe and fun filled journey. For more details about Trucks, Trailers or Storage Containers feel free to visit – http://www.anjerinc.com
