Sam and Sophia

1. Who are you? Where are you from? How did you get into the profession you are in?
We are Sam and Sophia, outdoor and travel content creators and the faces of @travelersforgood over on Instagram. We’re originally from Phoenix, AZ, but moved to San Diego at the end of 2025. Sophia has been building a content creation business since 2022, and Sam quit his job to join her full-time in 2025!

2. What does safety mean to you?
Safety is a non-negotiable part of every adventure, and it allows us to confidently embark on our adventures without being overly reckless. We never want to be caught off guard when something goes wrong. Planning for the worst means having the best time possible!

3. From your field and/or experiences, what is something that you would want everyone to know to help them stay safe?
There are so many important safety tips and tools that should be part of every outdoor adventure. The most obvious, but crucial tip is that someone should always know where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Bonus points for having a satellite messenger!

4. Why do you think safety and rescue equipment is important?
Outdoor adventure is unpredictable, and even when you do everything right, you can still end up in a situation you didn't plan for. Proper safety and rescue gear is all you’ll have in sticky situations and could be the difference between life and death! It’s easy to feel like thinking this way is pessimistic, but it's also easy to underestimate the outdoors.

5. How did you come across the resqme car escape tool? If so, how do you use it in your line of work or daily life?
We spend a lot of time road tripping at home and abroad, and often find ourselves in very remote areas with sketchy roads. Having the resqme car escape tool with us gives peace of mind and confidence that we can get out of the vehicle quickly if we need to. For us, it's basic insurance.

6. What stories do you know, have experienced, or heard throughout your profession/life that made you learn the importance of safety and being prepared for any emergency?
We have been lucky enough to avoid major emergencies on our adventures (*knock on wood*). One time we were caught driving in bad weather through slippery, remote overlanding trails and found ourselves sliding into a ditch. We were able to get ourselves out, but felt confident through it all since we had packed plenty of supplies and necessary safety tools, including our satellite messenger. If we had needed recovery help, we knew we wouldn't be waiting long.
The outdoors community is very serious about safety, and for good reason. When you’re outdoors you’re at the mercy of mother nature, and she’s not always kind or predictable. It's important to have fun and try things that push you out of your comfort zone, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of safety preparedness.

7. How would you like to inspire others to stay safe?
By showing that taking safety seriously and having fun aren't mutually exclusive. Social media doesn't always show the safety and preparedness that go into an adventure, just the highlights. Prioritizing safety means that the next adventure isn't your last.
