The resqme® original car escape tool is the only device you need in your car to keep you safe! As simple as the tool may be, we’ll break down each important part & how they work. Here’s our resqme® anatomy breakdown:
Spike:
The stainless steel spike is designed specifically for shattering tempered glass on a car side window. When pushed with enough force, the sharp tip is able to shatter glass into little shards in seconds.
The spike tip of the resqme® is located on the front end of the tool, protected by the black cylindrical casing. This is the side that should be pressed against the glass in case of an emergency.
Blade:
The stainless steel blade of the resqme® is located on the back end of the tool, on the bottom side. This sharp blade is designed for several uses, and will cut through seatbelts with ease.
To reveal the blade and use this function, remove the black blade cover by pulling straight out on the key-ring.
For best results, cut the seatbelt at a 45° angle – leaving a quick, smooth cut behind.
Key-ring:
The included key-ring is the black/silver metal ring in the resqme® pouch that can (and should) be attached to the blade cover. Once you attach the key-ring, pulling off the blade cover becomes much easier by putting your finger in the opening and tugging quickly. You can also easily attach your resqme® to a keychain or the inside of your car for quick access.
Spring-loading mechanism:
Although you cannot see this mechanism, it is the real power-house of the resqme®. When you press the head of the tool against glass with enough force, the spring-loaded mechanism will activate to push the spike out. This ensures that the spike comes out with enough speed and force to shatter tempered glass!
If you look down the center of the black cylinder, you will notice the spike is not aligned in the resting position. Don’t worry – it should look like this, and will align itself with the interior mechanisms when activated. And be sure not to test it out on your fingers, as the spike will deploy regardless of the surface.
Silver ball-tip:
At the back end of the resqme®, this little silver ball might not seem important, but it’s actually a crucial part of the tool. It allows the interior mechanism to reload after being deployed, allowing you to use the glass-breaker time after time!
Just make sure not to press this part against the glass during an emergency. Always remember that the spike shoots out of the black cylindrical casing!
Now that you are more familiar with the resqme® anatomy, you can better understand how to use the tool in case of an emergency. For a more in depth look at the entire tool including the interior, check out this video!
The spring-loaded spike will always be there to break through glass, and the blade is always ready to slice through a seatbelt.
